“No, Lya, it’s her not him, remember?” His tears fell freely. He tried to be firm for her, but it was too much pain. “And she died too. Our Visenya died, I’m sorry.”
She smiled, denying with her head, then led the hand that was on her cheek to her belly, placing it right in the middle of the bump. The baby kicked and his hand burned where it hit..

This is a story about Goth and Shade. Now that Shade is grown up, he has much to do. Unfortunately, Goth has plans for him. He will become a king, and Shade will become his prince. This is a tragic tale of Shade accepting fate. Chinook has grown up too, but he will fear what Shade has become.

Summary
After the Dance of the Dragons, four dragons remain: Sheepstealer, Silverwing, Morning, and Cannibal. All four are healthy adults, but in canon all four are dead within the next few decades. But in my AU, the dragons live, and so what happens to some of these beasts? Who claims them when their riders die? This short story endeavors to fill in some of those gaps, and although it is one of two divergences from the theme of the series (the stories of dragons eggs that never hatched but are specifically described in the text), I think both are necessary to understand what's going on in the subsequent stories for the last three eggs. So this first one is the story of Morning and Silverwing, and who claimed them. The next one will be the first Blackfyre rebellion.
