Charlotte looked at the mirror, grinning brightly at the girl smiling back. The girl was adorned in a lovely dress. Charlotte fixed the neckline a bit and adjusted the skirt, then saw someone peering back at her. Behind the girl, a pale grey face with four eyes and a toothy grin splitting their face.
‘You look lovely,’ it mouthed.
Charlotte felt her throat burn.

Frei appeared on Charlotte’s bed and slipped their hand into her hair. “That’s a lot of emotions.”
“You don’t say,” Charlotte mumbled.
“I do say, Miss Wiltshire. And I also say that maybe lying here, feeling bad about things that aren’t in your control might not be the best way to relax. Why don’t you go get some tea, or something nice to eat? Then you can sleep for as long as you want.”
“Can I? Or will you bug me with that library again?”
“Goodness, you’re feeling sarcastic!”

Charles watches as the world rights itself, watches the puppet pair return to the dead end room, watches the white haired Freya peek out and watch them from behind her door. Seth drops his golden threads and hooks them up to Felix, this time without any argument. They both know there’s only a dead end ahead. She’s alone now, he thinks, Seth made Felix the main character on her request, if she dies this time it’s really over.
“She still has the scissors, though,” Seth whispers.

“Charlotte…” They’d said, tone thick, as though it was hard to force the words out.
He waited a moment, the silence crashing down upon them both through the staredown, his face shifted into a sort of regret, and he had begun to turn around when she finally managed.
“Ben...net-t…” She called, her hand reaching out towards him as she leaned forwards, lifting herself off her knees to try and crawl a bit closer. Shock turned back to sadness, then to disgust as a gloved hand came to his mouth, the other slipping off the door to do the same. She scrambled forwards to meet him, hand still extended as the door slammed shut, her forehead colliding against it with an audible thump!
“N-Nooo! Benn...ett! Bennett!” She’d screamed, ripped nails still trying to claw her way to the familiar figure, to plead for his help, for the reason why he’d left her. The heavy door rattled beneath her small fists, and the banging went on until her knuckles began to pain too greatly to continue.
It was the last time anyone had come, and, sometimes, she’s sure it was just a hallucination.

Felix noticed. He didn’t want it to be his problem, didn’t want to bother with the delusional girl as she hunted her prey, but… Her hands were shaking, she finally looked at them, gawking as though scared of what she saw, he spotted them, the pigment spots, the silver strands weaving through a red bun, how she wobbled in an unnatural manner, like she couldn’t see.
Tears pricked in Scarlett’s eyes, she leaned over more, pressing her palms to her eyes and biting her lip hard enough to make it bleed, like she was trying so hard not to scream. She’d slept three days...but for such rapid progression to take place was concerning. His hand on her shoulder, the flinch that made him pull away, a mistake considering how quickly she lunged for his hand.
“I have to find Wiltshire! I have to! Have to. Have to.”
The panicked look faded back into a cool apathy, her eyes lost their silver sheen, lightening slightly. He took her hand and she didn’t respond for a long time, tugging but unable to go, she slid to the floor and began to cry.
“It hurts…” It seemed like Scarlett for the first time that hour, she caught his eyes in a desperate sort of frown, fearful and pleading, “I’m scared…”
