After confronting Morgause's vision of his mother, Arthur rides for Camelot, intending to make his father pay for his hypocrisy. He falls short of luck, for the King has fallen back on the counsel of his faithful Witchfinder, Aredian, who is convinced that Arthur is not Arthur, the crown prince, but a changeling, bound to Morgause's will and let loose upon Camelot to usurp Uther of his crown.
As Arthur is dragged away to the dungeons, sentenced to a death by fire, Merlin must race against time to change the course of events which seem to spell out Arthur's demise. Time is scarce, however, and for all intents and purposes, it might be too late already.

The trouble begins when Merlin vanishes mysteriously in broad daylight. When he finally returns to the castle there is something odd about him. After a serious incident it is discovered that a very dangerous and powerful snake species was used as a method to influence Merlin's state of mind. Arthur and Merlin set out for a quest to kill the mother beast of the Fomorroh while it is tranquilized. If they succeed, Merlin will be freed and they can protect Camelot from King Cenred and his right hand, Morgause.
Meanwhile, Guinevere and Morgana try to stop what looks like an impossible fate falling on Merlin as the Kingdom is in for another threat...

Merlin was a good boy, promise. It's Arthur who thinks he should be doing things that he really doesn't want to do. Like, not spending the entire day at his side, because apparently, pets should be spoiled and pampered and don't need to sit in on boring meetings. Merlin thinks that anything that takes him away from Arthur's side for too long -see, any time at all- is useless and not to be trusted.
They're going to have to fix that.
