Summary
Evelyn Jones, wife of Vault-Tec Vice President Nathan Jones, appears to have the perfect life. She's unfathomably rich, married to one of the most powerful men in the world, and her infant son, Shawn, miraculously survived being born two months premature. Appearances, however, can be deceiving.
No one knows the sprawling mansion she lives in is actually a prison, and long ago she learned to fear the warden's wrath. With Shawn as her only reason to live, Evelyn puts on a brave face for him and escapes into books and music.
Evelyn's life is turned upside down when, on the eve of nuclear war, Nathan brings her and Shawn to a cryostasis vault to wait out the apocalypse. She's awoken 218 years later by a terrifying man with a large facial scar. He murders Nathan and Evelyn is powerless to stop him from stealing her baby. After barely escaping the vault with her life, she meets group of soldiers and Evelyn somehow knows she can trust their leader.
For the next nine months Evelyn works to shed the chrysalis of her trauma, both physical and psychological, to become Evie Dernhelm: A warrior strong enough to find whoever took her baby and get Shawn back.
