Summary

Stripped to an open shirt, hose, and his tall boots, he looks somehow larger than in all the layered finery of his office. Broader, perhaps even taller than she recalls, but that is likely a trick of light and shadow on the lighter colored clothing. She stares at his mouth, around it at the dark hair on upper lip and chin. It must also be some trick of the light, making that seem longer while the shadows dance and give his hair the illusion of actually being shorter than she knows it is. The king’s hair brushes just past his shoulders, but something in the way it is brushed back makes it appear to stop just above. Curious. She shall have to pay more attention to the fascinating work of shadows.
