Summary
One day, David would open a copy of that book and realise that he was meant to be real. That she had sewn him to mend the hole in her heart with a patchwork covering, and that only by finding his own way back to her could he escape the never-ending maze.
But that still hadn’t happened, even after she’d failed to make it happen so many times.
She wasn’t trying hard enough; she deserved the failure. She knew she did, and she knew because she knew that was what Roy would tell her, if he’d only show himself. He had his reasons. The day she succeeded would be the day she saw him again, and the day she saw David again. Fully human, both of them. And it would be the way it was so long ago, David and Lesley and her dearest Roy. She was single-handedly sewing them back together, like he had ordered her to.
