Summary
While trying to save his village from a fire drake, Thorin Oakenshield was cursed to suffer and die when the dragon's blood tainted his soul. The exile prince sets off on an adventure to try to break the curse set upon himself and ventures to the Mountain of the Eagles where he can plead to the Valar gods for his life. There he finds a war going on between the elf king Thranduil and the giant Eagels of Manwë for control of the mountains. Thorin will also meet a strange halfling that has been taken in by the giant eagles and discovers something much greater hiding behind the mortal world that they all share.
