So, he did.
Bodies, mangled thin-skinned bodies scratching at the windows. Their mouths were wide open and teeth covered in black. Jon wanted to know where they came from, he needed to ask. But before he could do anything, Tim was tugging him by the arm to Artefact Storage of all things. It was underground, sure, but no way they could stay!

Tim stares into the mirror, and a stranger stares back at him.
He moves like a ghost in his own life. He's not really sure when that started- after Jane Prentiss attacked, maybe, or possibly a bit before; he can't quite remember when he noticed it. He doesn't connect quite as easily as he did before, like there's an invisible wall between him and everybody else, and that wall just keeps thickening every day.
Someday soon, he won't be able to see or hear through it at all. Someday soon, he'll be entirely on his own.
He blinks, and the stranger in the mirror is gone.

Jon closes his eyes.
And he weeps.
(Martin ends just as the world does, his body crumbling under the violent, crying Eye splitting the sky open. The knife in his hand has fallen to the ground, red blood mixing with black ink. The web carved on the blade isn’t visible anymore.
He has no hands, no arms, no mouth, no heart, but he knows he holds Jon against him until the end, whispering Love in his ear as they cry.)
(Sasha looks up from the Institute's lobby, Tim gasping as their eyes lock onto the first floor's balcony just outside Elias Bouchard's office. And Jon looks back at them.
His nose is bleeding and his eyes are feral when he walks down with a calm smile. Sasha doesn’t outright notice the scars littering his skin, scars that were absent only an hour ago, as she gapes back at Tim who seems one second away from fainting.)

Three times Jon had snuck back to the Archives, and three times he had been caught.
But this time, Martin didn’t freeze, or yell, or kick Jon out. This time, he sighed, long and weary, and held the door open. “Come on. I’ll put on the kettle.”
Or, Jon is stubborn, Martin is (sometimes) patient, and tea is made.
