In Irvine's defense... Okay, well, he didn't have a good defense, if he was being honest.
He had the weak, pathetic ones: they'd been drunk, the bar was dark, and it'd been literal years since he'd last seen the other, so, it wasn't like he was going to immediately recognize him, especially with how shitfaced he was trying to get to unwind.
And it was in fucking Dollet! How was he supposed to know that he was going to be there on that particular weekend, getting as shitfaced as Irvine after some important conference!
Oh, Squall was going to kill him.
After all, in no uncertain terms, he'd fucked his dad.

Within the walls of Inglenook, they ruminate on their regrets and grievances, both privately and together; as time slips by they realise they have come to depend upon one another in their now shared life, having obtained some semblance of absolution and harmony along the way. When Seifer's presence is discovered and her old friends and comrades call for him to face justice for his past crimes, Quistis has a choice to make. A slow-paced story that gently meanders along with the changing seasons towards a long-overdue happy ending for these two characters.

A pile of mission reports laid, scattered and unread on Squall's desk and floor, pushed to the side to make more room on his overworked and overworn desk. This, whatever this was, had started hours ago and they were no closer to finishing, several pots of coffee down and a whole bag of chocolates devoured.
Irvine sat on the side of the desk, his tongue caught between his teeth as he regarded his hand and the field, Squall taking another long sip of his coffee. He'd messed up the last pot and burnt it, not that he apparently cared because he drank it nonetheless.
"Shit, I got nothin'." Irvine grumbled as he sat a card for the hell of it, Squall preening as he won this round, their chosen rules not playing in Irvine's favor. "'nother round?"

The downfall of the Sorceress did little to combat Galbadian occupation throughout the continent, and Ultimecia's manipulation has left Seifer more scarred than anyone realized. The threat of another Sorceress War in Esthar follows the confusion and hysteria left in Ultimecia's wake, so when the Sorceress closest to Squall's heart falls pregnant with a little girl, the SeeD will stop at nothing to keep both of them safe.

Quistis glanced at her watch as she leant against the railing. Nearly midnight. And yet the party was still going. It still felt a little odd to celebrate right now. Through their actions a terrible threat had simply ceased to be, never to interact with them or cause any problems. But while she remembered the span of time in the castle, the labyrinth of halls and monsters, almost no one else did. Time compression for those outside it had been a transitory moment - a burst of unease and distance that faded before they could even begin to grasp what happened around them and to them. They were the lucky ones, Quistis decided as she sipped from her nearly empty wine glass. To not have seen that; the bleak future and their enemy who hated them all so very much.
Everyone in the group who fought Ultimecia seems to have someone. Except for Quistis.
