I was lookin' at you eye-to-eye, face to face. Didn't know it was love...
Dean Winchester knows a little bit about a lot of things. Just enough to make him dangerous, as he said once.
He knows basic EMF. He knows the discography of Led Zepp, the works of Kurt Vonnegut, and all about how the West was won (if you're talking cowboy movies). And don't get him started on movie quotes in general, at least according to his (tall, gargantuan) pain-in-the-ass little brother.
But when it comes to love, he's lost. Lost in expressing the words, at least - he can't do it. Not since he was four years old. Isn't one for gentleness and yet he leans consistently into any gentle touches he receives.
And suddenly this angel, his best friend, a celestial being who pulled him out of Hell and has known him for twelve years, is professing love. For Dean. A wave of celestial intent, around for eons, and he's fallen for a guy whose confessions (dubious as they are, who in life has ever said somethin' like "I'm your huckleberry" to somebody else?) come from cowboy movies.
And then he's gone.
Dean can't let this happen.

It's the end of October, and after a case, there's a carnival. Well it's more of a state fair, and no matter how many years go by, Dean loves these things. He's gonna make sure his family has a good time - so what if Sammy still goes wobbly at the sight of clowns, or even the thought of em? - there are spinning rides, pig races and lemonade, and those ridiculously gigantic stuffed animals to strive vainly to win... Along with everything possible to eat either fried or on a stick (or both!)
It's a beautiful day with a high blue sky and everything is awesome.
At least, until Cas decides he HAS to ride the Ferris Wheel. Or rather, that he and Dean have to ride it.
Together.

The person in question may beg to differ, and thus ensues silence, shouting, fury and despondency along with a desperate ache to protect and provide...)
He has Dean Winchester, in everything said having entails.
Which, for him, is everything.
But Dean knows he isn't - he can't be - everything.
No matter what Cas thinks - proof-positive that HE'S the one who's got it all - but Dean? He isn't even close. Not a chance in, or even after gettin' pulled out of (ha!), Hell.

There's some crap about the first cut being the deepest. Dean's heard that somewhere; definitely not from a Sheryl Crow song, fuck off, Sammy- (he digs the Rod Stewart version, even if the dude is sappy).
But Dean's more into the Bryan Adams song, because it does cut like a knife. And to know where to make a cut, first you have to know it hurts. And yeah, it's probably gonna hurt like hell. What's already within someone will cause that cut to REALLY hurt.

If Dean has to look at a phone for any longer than strictly necessary, he's gonna blow his brains out. That's what he's always said; apart from the time he'd joined his mom on that words with friends bullshit and then made the very desperate and sad online dating profile (he'd been in a tough spot, Sam, shut up).
Then there's the ridiculous dorky angel who said he likes emoticons, and Dean will be damned if he's friggin using those all the time. Hell no.
But then Cas starts sending some sort of ...code with the damn things, and if somehow Dean can figure out what he's saying, and what it supposedly has to do with the Power of Love (good song by Huey Lewis and the News, in a damn good movie too, but still)
If a damn series of text messages is what gets Dean to recognize the depth of and try to deal with his feelings for Cas, well.
It wouldn't exactly be a miracle, but it'd be pretty close.
