Patrick fiddles with his guitar strap, uncharacteristically anxious. They’ve done many of these by now and even David is getting used to the idea of being sung at in public, though he often needs to take a minute alone in the back after Patrick’s song. But Patrick knows that this is just how David processes his emotions. So he doesn't get anxious about this anymore, not like the first open mic when there was at least a 13% chance David would leave him out of sheer embarrassment.
This is the first time, though, that Patrick plans to play an original song.
