Summary
Lightning McQueen has always believed being a racer means pushing past the pain...until his knees remind him otherwise. From starting as a one-man show to collapsing mid-race in front of his crew when he ignores the warning signs, Lightning’s career is marked by a pain he can’t outrun.
But it’s also marked by the people who step up for him one way or another: Mack, Doc, Cal and Bobby, and soon, the whole town. In both big and small gestures, they teach him that asking for help isn’t weakness. It's a part of life.
(OR; a series of connected snapshots about Lightning's chronic knee pain and how he learns to let others in.)

Summary
Though Lightning originally believed the town folk of Radiator Springs were… to say the least–strange, he hadn't expected to have a gun pulled on him over tipping cows and trying to apologize for the activity–much less for being mistaken as an alien after an old man's remaining eye.
Aka, Lighting and Maters cow tipping shenanigans finally catch up to them.

Summary
He's been in Radiator Springs for just over six months when Lightning chances a glance at the calendar that Doc hangs up on their fridge.
The thing is color coded too- because knowing Doc: of course it is.
Blue means a race day, green means training down at the Butte, and the yellow days are the rest days that Doc insisted he take in order to not burn himself out from it all.
He freezes mid chew when he spots a lone space in June free of any color.
This upcoming Sunday.
More specifically: Father's Day.
Lightning has one of those, one rotting away from booze in Nowhere, Alabama. One he would prefer to forget most days. And now he has a Doc. He's not exactly sure what he's supposed to do with that knowledge.
(Or the one where Lightning struggles with the fact its fathers day and Doc is absolutely born to be Dad-shaped. Shenanigans occur as our resident racer figures out how to show how much he appreciates his Mentor.)

Summary
“Speed,” he grinned, slipping on his helmet. “I am speed. Float like a Cadillac, sting like a Beemer. Ka-chow!” he snapped his fingers and winked at Sally. “Just watch me win this race, baby.”
“I hope you lose,” Sally shot back before thinking about it and wished she hadn’t said it. There was no sense in encouraging that sky-high attitude of his.
“Aw, you don’t want me to leave, do you? Sorry to disappoint!” and he swung himself into his car in one smooth move.
*You don’t want me to leave, do you?*
Sally realized with a start that he was right. She didn’t want him to leave. And she had to admit to herself that it wasn’t just because she wanted him to finish fixing what he had destroyed. It was because he had brought color and life to a town that was dying. Even as arrogant and impossible and destructive as he was being… he had already helped them… and he didn’t even realize it. But no, she wasn’t being completely honest… there was something more than that… wasn’t there…? Something wrapping itself round her heart somehow… She shook her head. Impossible.

Summary
If looks could kill… Well, Doc knew someone would’ve been lying cold on the floor by now.
“Whatever he has to say can either wait till later,” Lightning began, clearly doing his best to keep the irritation at bay, “or can go into voicemail.”
Doc managed to keep his voice casual despite his almost overwhelming curiosity. “Who is it?”
With a quick flick of the wrist, Lightning threw the phone down the short hall and into the back bedroom.
“Harv,” he explained as he joined the group again. “My agent.”
Barely a week after the tiebreaker race, Lightning is whisked off to do post-season interviews and commercials. When Doc joins him in Florida for a televised interview, he begins to see that perhaps the kid’s agent isn’t as good for him as Lightning might think.

Summary
Forcing his voice not to waver, he swallowed. "...Hey, Sal."
He heard her take a breath. "Are you all right?"
"He wrote letters," Lightning forced out through clenched teeth. "A whole damn journal full of letters. To me."
She let out a slow breath and just the sound of it began to calm him. "I think you should come home, Stickers. You don't want to miss your flight."
Lightning couldn't remember when he had started flying to the tracks that Mack couldn't get to within a day. It was just easier that way. Besides, he and Doc used to drive the Hornet to races, so…
It's been two years since Doc's passing. Just when Lightning thinks he's moved on, the world comes crashing down on him. This time, it takes someone new to help him pick up the pieces.

Summary
He’d never felt the Lonely before. Now, it wouldn’t seem to leave him alone.
What was he supposed to do when Mack was off for the week and he was on his own?
A quick text to Harv was sent with the hope that the man wouldn’t take 3-5 business days to respond.
Kyle would’ve responded within minutes.
“Yeah,” Lightning whispered to the empty hotel room. “So much better…”

"Come on, Doc, Cal wants to interview all the greats, and that includes you!"
The beat of silence that passed felt positively eternal and Lightning didn't know how much longer he could hold his breath in anticipation.
Finally, the old crew chief sighed. "All of the greats, huh? I'm not one of the greats, rookie. I was just a kid who couldn't handle it when they told me no."
Two months after an interview gone wrong, the usual roles get reversed as Doc finds himself in need of a pep talk from Lightning, whether he wants it or not.

Summary
He'd been looking for the catch, waiting for the moment Doc took it all back, but there was nothing but the utmost sincerity in the old man's eyes.
Lightning sucked in a breath. "I don't know if you're aware of this, but I'm pretty loud. Like, all the time."
Doc smirked. "I think everyone in this town found that out the first night you were here, rookie."
"Okay, sure, but I also have a lot of stuff. Like, a lot of stuff. And it's all mostly useless junk that I just randomly collect for no reason."
"Well, that's a good sized room up there," was all Doc had to say about that…
Or, a collection of one-shots chronicling the many different kinds of mornings Doc and Lightning enjoy together after the Tiebreaker.
