Kiri closed her eyes, the fact still foreign to her. She knew what those people thought of her, their faces turning in disgust when they see her walk around the village. "Your people." She said, not bothering to entertain the idea that the village accepts her. Maybe in the near future, when she's mated to their golden boy, the role of being the spiritual leader placed on her shoulders—maybe then, Kiri assumes, they'll finally accept the freak into their clan.
After the death of Neteyam, Kiri finds herself succumbed to the duty of being the oldest and a sacrifice for her family.

Summary
“Hey, you good?” He asks, Lo’ak closes his eyes and tries to calm down his thundering heart once again. He then opens his eyes and stares at the lake in front of him.
“Did you do something? Want me to take cover?” At those words, he starts to tremble. Neteyam always took cover for him, even if he didn’t ask. It pains him that his dreams are so accurate with reality.
Silence falls between them again. Lo’ak feels so bad that he’s not talking but it’s like his mouth is clamped shut. Words aren’t coming to him at all.
Then—
“Oh, I get it.” He doesn’t think his brother understands. Now the fish are swimming away, far, far away like something dangerous has entered their waters. It makes his frown deepen.
“Do you blame yourself?”
Those words make him freeze.
“What?” Is the only word that leaves his mouth, quiet in shock.

“What is it?” Kiri’s awake, of course. None of them sleep anymore.
Spider doesn’t know how to say it. The words choke in his throat.

Spider stares at the sky, dark and rippling. The hammock below him sways. The sea-salt spray of the air stings at his cheeks. Sleep does not come.Spider has been a lot of things: a boy, a warrior, a prisoner, a son.

“What do you think? Want to go down there with me to get it?” Neteyam said, sounding pleased.
“To get what?” Viyume asked in disbelief. “Did you hit anything?”
“Sure, I did.” he said with a proud smile.
She quickly looked down. There was a skewered and still struggling fish down there. Quite an impressive hit.
“We should not make him suffer for too long.” he insisted to her.
“But how do we get down there? Where does this path lead to?” Viyume said, unsure and worried.
“We can choose to either follow the path, or take a shortcut. Though sometimes, you must choose not for yourself, but for the sake of others.”Viyume, an Omatikaya girl, has a crush on Neteyam. She breaks the three laws of Eywa by training with a sniper rifle to impress him. Unfortunately, their first date never happens due to Spider's capture. With Neteyam leaving the clan, Viyume gets desperate. After Eywa guides her with a prophetic dream, she chases after him, convinced she has to save him. Lost above the ocean, a mysterious hermit sets her back on her path. Hiding on the Metkayina island, she tries to resume her life with Neteyam in secret. But Viyume has no idea her true destiny extends far beyond Neteyam's fate.

Worst case, his words are true and she would tear herself limb from limb because if it was any of her brothers, she can't survive with only two....
Her head throbs as her mind screams again. Her heartbeat is like a second drum beat at the village dances back at home, Eywa's heartbeat is the main drum. Kiri inhales sharply and squeezes her eyes, trying to ignore the throbbing sensation in her head.
But she can't!

After Neteyam’s death, Spider had tried to adapt to living on the reef with the Metkayina and the Sully family. But the simple fact that he will save Quaritch will leave him terribly guilty while Neytiri who since he lost Neteyam had begun to look different from Spider and had finally begun to have him as his son although he was somewhat tense in relation to him. Neytiri feeling very sorry for what happened on the ship had tried to find a way to regain Spider’s affection and then a day after Spider had an incident with some Metkayina boys. Neytiri takes the opportunity to try to talk to him, which ends up making Neytiri discover something about Spider that he didn’t know before.
