When they were together, whatever they were doing was at risk of explosion, and they had a way of drawing biting wit from one another. They bickered more than the others, quick to raise hackles and spit glass, but they struggled to hold grudges for more than a few minutes. James hated his friends arguing, so would sometimes intervene. Either way, their apologies ended in laughter, and a friendship a thread stronger. Sirius had secrets too, he thought. Maybe not the same as his, but something.

Remus’s mind is buzzing. His Ma made his stockings for him. Her hands are strong, and steady, and not ridden with tumors and other horrible things that happen when one has cancer, such as being sick or losing all of your hair or turning green or whatever the fuck it is that sickly people- not his Ma, mind you- become.
