Eri and her Ai-tou get home to find her Izu-nii curled up on the sofa, not feeling very well, so of course they look after him!~~~
"What's wrong with Izu-nii?"
"I'm not sure, kid, but nothing too bad, I don't think, seems like a light fever and stomach ache."
"Oh." Her Ai-tou looks at her again then, and his expression is all molten. Kind.
"Hey, darling, don't worry about your Izu-nii, alright? He'll be okay." That lets Eri's spring-tight shoulders relax, at least a fair bit, because she knows that her Ai-tou doesn't lie to her, not about anything important or really anything ever, and Izu-nii is very much important.
(For my darling Riley - it's not as much of a Christmas present as much as a "I love you and I want to give you even a tiny bit of the joy that you give me" sort of thing, so I really hope you enjoy!!)

Summary
Nick graduated from university and had a meltdown basically immediately. He doesn’t feel like he’s ready for all of the responsibilities that come with being a real adult and taking care of himself, much less other people’s children. He's been really struggling with his mental health. Being Charlie's rock through all of his pain and trauma has taken its toll on Nick and made him into an intensely protective and nervous person.
Charlie, as usual, coaxes him out of it.
“You know, they’re always looking for assistants. You’d just be an extra set of hands. That’s not so scary?”
Nick agrees to apply and see what happens. He has no idea what he’s signing on for, but he’s going to figure it out somehow. Who knows? Maybe he's in the right place.
Alternative description: stressed out assistant teacher with PTSD copes with the utter insanity that is this job by constantly asking herself “What would Nick Nelson do in this situation?”
