    Lúthien stared at that dark throne, at the monstrous Vala sprawled there, a king among his dark court, as cruel and vicious as the killing frost. The hearths on either side of the hall roared with crimson flames, reflecting off the metal floors, looking as though the conflagration was leaping here and there in the center of the room. The tall, smoke-dark pillars held up a vast ceiling, shrouded in darkness and strange eddies of curling steam. The thick scent of blood and burning flesh filled the room, even as the hosts of Morgoth feasted on their foul tables, dripping half-chewed meat and liquids best not thought about onto the slick floors.

    Here is a song called Of Finrod and Bëor, also called by some, Of Finrod and the Coming of Men, as was still sung in Rivendell in the Third Age of the world. It is but a fragment from the Lay of Felagund, which told the story of Finrod Felagund in full. It was first cast into Sindarin in Imladris by some of the High Elves who dwelt there for a time, and later into Westron.
