In the aftermath of Sora, The Balladeer's introductory festival, Snezhnaya finds itself in a state of disarray.
The Tsaritsa is in critical condition, the citizens are questioning their belief in the plan, and The Fatui and its Harbingers are all on edge. Many blame Aether for what happened, because of his absence during the initial attack, but they don't understand.
None of them understand how much the events of that night hurt him.
None of them understand the feelings of loss, and betrayal, tormenting him.

On the plus side, he gained some cool elemental magic, some floating emergency food, and lacked the ability to sleep - a 500 year nap would do that to you, he supposed.What, it's not normal to be completely disillusioned with the world? He's several centuries old, give him a break.

It was at this point that staying and listening became an active choice that Thoma wrestled with; his guilt both insisted he leave and commanded he stayed.
He was just about certain he knew what the Traveller had meant by “what happened in Inazuma.”
A shiver ran down his spine at the memory of Aether’s still, battered body lying before the Raiden Shogun, unmoving as she lifted her weapon for the killing blow.
The thought of the lightning scars that laced the Traveller’s skin made his chest feel heavy with guilt. He could only imagine how Aether felt.
Or, Thoma eavesdrops by mistake. Aether is worried about the future.
Unfortunate weather leads to some meetup plans turning into an overnight stay at Komore Teahouse, and the storm causes some not-so-pleasant memories to rear their ugly head.

He can barely believe it’s his own voice as he speaks, but he can’t bring himself to stop speaking or tear his gaze away from Aether, even as his voice begins to waver. “The heart of the universe, carrying the weight of the stars. All centered in a single, otherworldly traveler. Certainly, Teyvat has been blessed.”
There’s an unreadable expression on Aether’s face as he stares back up at Albedo, summoning a silent pause. After a few beats, Aether shifts to sit back up, his back facing Albedo. For a brief moment, the alchemist begins to panic -- was he perhaps a little too truthful? Was Aether disgusted by such a comment and was going to leave -- but his worries are dispelled the moment Aether shifts a second time, turning to face Albedo.
“What is it then, that the universe revolves with?”
