James’ life was a miserable one. Being a prince meant his every step was guided entirely by his controlling parents, who seemed intent on ensuring he was as downtrodden as possible.
The one silver lining he could appreciate was that in a day and age where soulmates were very prevalent, James didn’t have one. He didn’t want to be responsible for dragging another person into this mess, forcing them to wear plastic smiles and put on an act, play the part dictated to them by his parents.
Of course, he shouldn’t have expected himself to be so lucky. He was almost in the clear, a few months shy of his eighteenth birthday, when an unfamiliar voice rang out in his head, crushing his hopes of not burdening someone else with this melancholic lifestyle.

It had become routine at this point. Whenever he let James hold his phone, he would always end up with a different wallpaper. It might not be to his liking, but he really couldn’t do anything about it—because he enjoyed seeing James’ satisfied face every time he succeeded in teasing him.
For the past year, his phone’s wallpaper had already gone through six to seven changes a week. It still depended on whether James could find a funny, embarrassing picture of Koh. It was a harmless prank, so he let it slide every time.

James's head starts to ache with everything. He's in denial about what probably happened— the ache in his body confirms whatever activity he was involved in last night, where he is right now, and, most importantly, who he did it with.
He was about to leap out of the bed when the man shifted, turning to face him, clearly bothered by the way the bed rattled. James's breath hitched upon seeing Koh's face. He wasn't shocked that the man was Koh— but by the fact that his friend somehow looked even more attractive than he already was.

Koh was a rosebud that had yet to blossom, surrounded by complex layers lying in wait for James’ greedy fingers to unravel them and expose the innermost parts of his psyche. James only needed the courage to reach out and grab onto those soft petals, slowly peeling them back until he got to the center, ending with a beautiful rose in full bloom.
Koh's emotions were shining brightly in his eyes, hanging off his full lips, spelled out in his darling freckles. James was the only one who could decode the secret messages drawn in those beautiful constellations that kissed his cheeks.

Koh wasn't sure how he was expected to speak when James was so close. The dim light of the living room lamp reflected in his eyes, illuminating them, thousands of tiny stars sparkling in his irises. The beautiful birthmark on the side of his nose was particularly visible when it was mere inches away. And his eyelashes were curved prettily, perfectly accentuating his eyelids, something Koh wouldn't notice when it came to anyone else. But this was James, so of course he focused on every possible detail, no matter how small.
James was waiting. For some kind of reaction, he was sure. But Koh had no clue how to speak at the moment, his breath was rattling uselessly in his lungs because he never imagined he would be put in this situation. Even in his wildest dreams, he never allowed his brain to delude himself into thinking James would want to be with him.

He opened his eyes after the painful fall, his back feeling sore, and they landed upon a pair of dark ombres, sparkly and vast, staring shamelessly back at him. The depths were devoid of emotions, devoid of everything else.

After a drunk night out Neo is left to wonder about the 'mysterious cut on his lip', as Ai'Pond put it, something he hadn't deemed worth worry over until everybody suddenly started to be interested—ridiculously so—to the point Neo himself grew self-conscious of it.
All he remembers is how his hero complex got him flying across the bar counter and woke up the next day sore, concussed, and sporting a splitting hangover.
Nothing unexplainable.
But how come the basketball senior string takes notice of him after and seems keen on recruiting him to their circle on the other hand is not.
His gang being weirdly tight-lipped about the whole thing doesn't help either.
Then there's some dude popped out of nowhere cornering him and going on about some stupid jacket. He'd never heard of a busted lip causing so much drama.
