Five could feel his breaths leaving him in a panic, the tears dripping before he could stop them. He didn’t believe it, he refused to believe it; how could the lifeless bodies spread out like ragdolls be his siblings?

All bets are off when the dead body lying before him twitches.
Five freezes. Completely and totally freezes. His eyes are fixed on the body before him. The one that must belong to Klaus. The body had twitched. There’s a chance that he was hallucinating, and maybe he’s just desperate enough to hallucinate his dead brother moving, but he could swear that it was real. He could swear that he saw Klaus twitch and–
Klaus blinks.
Five knows, for absolutely certain this time, that he didn’t hallucinate that.
“Klaus…?” His voice is small. Tiny, even, when he forces his brother’s name out. He waits. He waits for a long minute, and there’s nothing. No more movement. No words. No breath. Nothing. Five thinks he must be losing his mind already. Finding the bodies of his siblings – sans Ben and Vanya – must have done more damage quicker than he thought. He must be desperate. Hallucinating. He must be–
Then Klaus gasps.

And when he really stops to consider it, he isn’t quite sure what exactly would change with an extra person. Would it truly make that much of a difference?
Five has studied this, and after all, it’s his power. He knows he can control it.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Five’s resolve is crumbling by the minute, but Klaus’ is obviously stronger than ever.
“Of course! You think I’d let you have all the fun? Time traveling and shoving it up Dad’s ass? Not a chance, Cinco. Where you go, I go,” he grins triumphantly, and Five has lost.

Le pire, pense Klaus, ce n'est pas la mort. Ne le dites pas à Ben, mais il est un peu apathique vis-à-vis de cette partie depuis. . . un moment maintenant. La mort et Klaus ont une certaine relation qui défie toute explication, et bien qu'il ait toujours peur des fantômes, il ne se souvient pas d'avoir eu peur au moment où il a donné un coup de pied dans le seau. Peut-être que ça fait partie de ses pouvoirs, peut-être que c'est juste lui.
Ce ne sont donc pas les mourants. Ce n'est pas non plus l'apocalypse, car Klaus est en fait un peu surpris que cela ne soit pas arrivé plus tôt, d'une manière ou d'une autre. Ce n'est pas le fait que la disparition de Five l'ait précipité directement en enfer, ni que Klaus soit un fantôme maintenant, ni qu'il soit apparemment coincé à suivre son frère comme un Casper discount.
Non, Klaus peut s'occuper de toutes ces choses. Mal, mais il le peut.
Le pire, c’est que Five pense qu’il est seul, et Klaus ne peut pas lui dire le contraire.

Summary
What if Klaus survived the apocalypse, but Five had long since buried him (and the rest) and left for other parts of the city by the time Klaus woke up? What if, like ships in the night, they kept crossing each other's paths without even realizing it? What if, the only reason the commission took Five out of his time, was because the two were dangerously close to meeting up?
Five can't ever know what happened. The timeline would surely be out of their control if he caught wind of who started it.
The handler wasn't worried though. She had a plan.

The worst part, Klaus thinks, isn’t the dying. Don’t tell Ben, but he’s kind of been apathetic towards that part for….a while now. Death and Klaus have a certain relationship that defies explanation, and while he’ll always be afraid of the ghosts he can’t actually remember ever being afraid of the part where he’d kick the bucket. Maybe it’s part of his powers, maybe it’s just him.
So it’s not the dying. It’s not the apocalypse, either, because Klaus is actually a little surprised that hadn’t happened sooner, one way or another. It’s not the fact that Five’s disappearance jumped him straight into hell, or that Klaus is a ghost now, or that he is apparently stuck following his brother around like a discount Casper.
No, Klaus can deal with all of those things. Badly, but he can.
The worst part is that Five thinks he’s alone, and Klaus can’t tell him otherwise.
