DeeDee looked away from him. "I lost my best friend," she told him, even though she knew that he was fully aware of the situation. The situation was staring them in the eyes, burning holes into their brains, swallowing them whole. And she couldn't feel a single thing.
"Act like it," he demanded.
DeeDee wanted to yell at him, scream at him, that she was acting like it, but she didn't want him to know that he actually managed to hurt her. Being impossible to faze was a carefully crafted act she'd been performing since they'd met, and she wasn't going to lose that reputation for anything. Besides, she was thankful that the anger was something. The feelingless void that seemed to loom over her wasn't all-powerful.
"For a while, I was convinced that Punch was immortal," she admitted.
