On their third night at the priory, Gosmungo shakes them awake shortly before Lauds. He holds a finger to his lips to indicate the need for silence. "Get your shoes on. Gather your things." His voice is barely audible, but there is no mistaking the urgency. He guides them out of the room and into a dark corridor before he speaks again in a breathless whisper. "There are men at the gates asking questions. I bought a few moments by telling them I needed to fetch the Prelate."

Summary
Although Colfer has stated before that he has drawn from his knowledge of Irish mythology, he has never stated specifically which myths informed his writing. As someone with a bit of a background in Irish mythology, I have made a guess at some of the sources of inspiration, explained a couple of references within the series, and analysed a few characters as having connections to Irish history/mythology.

{completed} A Beauty and the Beast retelling, with influences from the traditional BatB fairytale, Irish/Celtic mythology, and Disney's 1991 Beauty and the Beast. ~❦︎~ Athena Everleigh is a curious lass living in a village on the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland in 1905. Nearing her sixteenth birthday, she faces a choice: to either live the life her mother prepared for her, full of magic, forests, ancient tales, and shapeshifting—or to become the rising Dublin socialite her father wants her to be. It is not until she begins working in a castle for a mysterious man that the answer becomes clear. Several weeks go by, but the longer she works for him, the more she realizes he may not even be a man at all. It turns out, he has a past all his own. And it is up to Athena to unravel it.

It had been many long years since the last feeding. But the Empire did not let its roses wilt, and the House’s patience was rewarded one fine morning not long after the new Crawleys’ arrival, when Tom Branson arrived, young and bright and full of righteous dreams.
Oh, the House sighed when he appeared on the gravel drive. Love at first sight. Here is one just for me.
