While both adults were bound in place, they could only watch helplessly as Voldemort cast the killing curse towards there sons. When the curse struck however, in an act that could only be described as a miracle, the curse deflected back and Voldemort with a flash of bright green magic. The only proof of the dark lord being there that night was the lightning bolt scarred into their eldest son Alexander.
