Summary
During WWI, Catherine O’Connell becomes a dial painter at a New Jersey radium factory. While her peers follow the standard — and deadly — lip-pointing technique, Catherine relies on her father’s superstitions and uses a water jar instead. As the other women begin to fall ill, she remains untouched. Quietly, she passes her method to the new girls, starting a ripple effect that could never undo the original tragedy — but might be enough to keep others from following the same path.
