Sometimes he woke up in bed, felt that Calliope was purring lazily on his stomach, the sunlight shed a soft glow through the windows, the smell of sea mixed in the air; he saw the main house shining under the sun, ivy leaves seemed so fresh and lively. He saw Arthur, walking towards the guesthouse in his somehow both ridiculous and attractive outfit. His face was as bright as the sky above, and every time Linus looked at him his heart seemed to melt a bit.
All of these made Linus believe his life was too good to ask for anything more.

Linus was hot.
This was an understatement.
It was mid-September, and summer had refused to turn over the reins to autumn. For a week, the temperatures rose to ridiculous heights as summer dug its claws deeper into the month. All day and night, fans oscillated hot air through the house. Zoe had taken them into the deep, shady parts of the forest to find some respite from the merciless sun only to be choked by soupy, humid air.
Linus was miserable. Linus was not a man built for hot temperatures. He was more of a winter man. He carried around his own extra insulation. In the summer, he was a gross, sweaty, sluggish ball of misery. He had given up changing out sweaty shirts for fresh ones this week as he would only sweat through it again in a few minutes. As the days crept deeper into September, Linus prayed to any deity out there for cooler temperatures. Maybe a frost? A frost sounded splendid.
He contemplated this as he lay on his back spread-eagled on the floor of his and Arthur’s bedroom.

When Arthur kissed him good night in the dark, his chest ached for having the fortune of being so close to the warm breath from Arthur’s lips, and while a part of him was gratified, a small part of him desperately yearned for more.
