The silence fills the room and Josie can feel her boss’s stone-cold blue eyes staring at her. She wouldn’t dare look up to meet them and instead averts her eyes down to the wooden flooring.
It wasn’t even her first week at her new job and she had already made the impression that she couldn’t be trusted, and even though that impression was wrong, her boss took no chances and took the word of her other employees.
“Could you please give me a reason why they say you're responsible for our project plans being leaked to our rival company?” Her boss says in a curious tone.
Josie gulps, “I’m a new hire. It’s easy to pin the blame on me, Ms. Mikaelson.” She replies.
She hears Ms. Mikaelson get out of her chair and her heels clicking and clacking around her desk, before stopping just in front of her. Her eyes are still glued to the ground and she can see the woman’s red heels in the corner of her eye. Fingers caress her jawline and lift her head up by her chin, causing Josie to be eye-to-eye with her boss; the look on her face is unreadable.
“Look at me when I’m talking to you, Ms. Saltzman.”
