Eric places his bag next to the vacant chair, carefully gripping his drink so as not to spill it. How does one greet someone at a death cafe? The woman continues petting her cat, not looking over at him. He feels the anxiety build as he wonders if he's being rude for not introducing himself immediately, or if he should have asked if the seat was taken beforehand. As his thoughts race, he hears himself ask, "Does he ever get the zoomies in public?"
The woman slowly looks over at him and the cup in his hand. "Isn't it a bit late for coffee?"
Eric feels a tinge of embarrassment at having to respond, "It's hot chocolate."
She huffs out a laugh. Eric turns to look at her. "Excuse me, is that not a mature enough drink for you? If I had coffee at this hour, I'd have the zoomies."
