Summary
“What are you- why are you talking like that?”
Double shit. They haven’t been together a long time, but long enough for Billy to recognize that hitch in Steve’s voice. He’s incidentally, accidentally triggered a never-healed wound Wheeler gifted him junior year. Billy exhales heavily. He knows now, no matter what he says, Steve won't be able to hear it.
“I’m not talking like anything.”
“Yes, you are,” Steve scoffs pissily, “Now tell me why!”
Billy pushes his thumb into the soft space above his eye. He’s starting to get a headache from all this unnecessary miscommunication.
“Because I really prefer when you call my cell.”
