Summary
As he nudges his nose against her, her eyes flutter shut, focusing on her heaving breaths, deep and slow as she falls back into the bed and rises up again. She’ll give this up for a life with a husband and a series of days that stack up in front of each other, one falling after another like dominoes. A sliver of the moon when she used to hold it all in her hand. And this will be left for the Feasts, this relic of a life she loved. The world is narrowing to a single point, and Jessamine gasps.
“Corvo,” she says suddenly. “Corvo.”

Last evening is a silent and all-encompassing blank. While it must have been nice to live it, Daud notes it's much less so to be dealing with the consequences, and his headache hammers a couple more nails into the backs of his eye sockets in agreement. He musters up the energy to crack open an eye.
The mass of blanket on top of him takes up more space than expected. It also, upon some squinting, seems to have a shoulder. And an arm. The arm has a freckle on the back curve of the bicep.
Blankets do not have freckles, his brain offers a little frantically.*
Everyone knows Fugue Feast nights are rife with wild times to be had.
Still, it's rough waking up with no memory of how you got where you are—especially when your mortal enemy's right there, and waking up as well. This morning isn't going to haunt Daud at all.

Summary
He made it as far as the abandoned courtyard before something caught his attention.
It was Corvo, running through forms with the steady assurance of someone who had done them thousands of times before. Thomas recognized him by his expertise before he could make out anything else distinctive, and his mouth went dry for a moment. Not only was Corvo experienced, he made it look good— made it look easy, like the blade was a flawless extension of himself. Away from the furor of combat Thomas could really appreciate his mastery of the blade.Series
