Theseus knew who he was as Red Nebula, that title - that name - felt like home.
It felt like four walls and a door to hide behind. A mask and a hero and a boy who everyone thought was a man. It was a mentor with a too-tight grip on his shoulder and constantly busted lips. It was duty and a job, a list of things to get checked off and a number of injuries to bandage up, a map of survival scarred into skin.
Tommy feels like a slow motion shipwreck and he doesn’t know how to get off the sinking boat. He doesn’t know how to be Tommy.
It’s been three months since the League of Organized Heroes fell and he still doesn’t know how to be anything but Red, but the sidekick. Doesn’t know how to go back to the boy he was before he became a weapon; doesn’t know how to let his hands just be hands, how to be a civilian instead of a hero.
He gets up and there’s no armor to put on, no training or bloody fights.
He gets up and he’s alone. No mentor, no Organization breathing down his neck, no heroes to bump into at HQ or villains to bare teeth at.
Tommy has freedom now and he doesn’t know what to do with it.It’s been three months. He should have his shit figured out by now.

Pain.
He knew it well, felt it many times in his lifetime. Tommy knew how it sparked through his limbs, crackling through his blood as he writhed on the floor of a warehouse, or a training mat, yelling and cries around him piercing his ears.
It was like a friend to him, maybe his first. And only.
But…pain wasn’t like this.
Tommy drew himself up from where he was in a pool of his own blood, a pained whine escaping his cracked and bloody lips as he coughed. Shadows ate away at the walls of the alley around him, remnants of his power staying even after he had exhausted all of it. That much was evident in the blackness creeping up his arms, numerous scars disappearing beneath the tendrils. Fuck. He didn’t have much time. Pressing the panic button under his suit for the sixth time that night, he drew his bloodied fists up in front of him, gritting his teeth. Just a bit more… then Wilbur will come. He always does. He’ll save Tommy, he won’t leave him again.
Will he?

The car door opens with a crunch, glass shards like crystals spraying the car. His ears are ringing as the door scrapes against concrete and he realises, with clarity that doesn’t match the blurry doubling of his vision, that the car is upside down.
He reaches out towards the concrete, jaw clenched when his arm brushes broken glass. He barely gets his forearm out before someone grabs him and Stitch’s heart lurches.
“Holy shit are you okay?” A voice asks and he hasn’t heard that question in years.

"well, I must finish my speech, go ahead and play toms." dream whispered, turning to the crowd.

In a single smooth movement, Tommy whirls around ,coming face-to-face with the brown-haired man. Bloodshot eyes staring right through him as he freezes in fear. The only thing running through his brain is the overwhelming urge to run, yet his body doesn't listen.
The man’s gaze shifts to something softer, eyebrows raised as if something had just dawned upon him. Tommy knees fail him as the man takes a step forward. The man furrows his brows, taking notice of Tommy’s panic, and breathes in.
“So, you can see me, right?”
TLDR:
Tommy is an ex-hero in training trying to run away from his past. A task that's a bit difficult to fulfill when one of L'Manburg's most dangerous villains is haunting him after his mentor killed him in battle.
