Regulus black wishes his younger self knew, wishes that the tear streaked face he had while writing his letter wasn't because he knew his younger self wouldn't understand, he hopes Sirius understands, hopes that james- even though they barely talked- understands. And hopes his mother rots in hell.
He wishes his thoughts could be heard, but he also hopes no one reads them, he wishes the scars were only the scars his mother caused, and not from his blade, hopes Barty forgives him for going alone, and he expects him to be mad- he knows barty will be upset, and he knows Evan will be upset that him and Barty even thought of it.
He has an urgent need to write his last words, so if his mother finds them she knows he wants her dead, so if Sirius find them he knows he misses him. If Barty finds one..He knows he's sorry, and if James finds his, he'll finally know why he ignored him all those times, why sometimes he'd get distracted staring at him.

The eye locked onto something. It locked onto him.

Somehow the eye saw right through him.
Its attentive gaze penetrated right through the scarred skin of Alastor Moody and it reached the true Barty Crouch Jr. even through the polyjuice and deceptions. Like a claw gripping his chest, ripping every layer of lies apart, scooping Barty out those impostor's guts.
“You’re not—” Barty breathed out, voice cracking. “You’re not fucking supposed to see me.”
It took a while for Barty to find the strength to put the pieces together. Weeks, maybe months. When the truth finally hit him, it shattered him more than any torture and curse ever could.
[Or the one where Moody's magical eye is actually Evan's eye that he ripped out of his skull after their duel as a sick form of revenge. Barty has to come to terms with that.]

“ We thank our Noble Hero ” the article reads. Whose hero is he exactly? A hero of war? Really? Evan Rosier was a child. The so-called “Noble Hero” is a child killer, no better than the Death Eaters they claim to scorn.
Was it justice when the killing curse hit him square in the chest? Was it truly noble or is that just something the “good” tell themselves to sleep at night.
Barty hasn’t slept, not for days. This justice doesn’t help him. It doesn’t inspire hope but rather pain, grief, loss. Barty is lost.

At first it was positive attention, cooking dinner, doing chores around the house, reading every book in the house and trying to become the best. When that didn't work, he took a different approach. Befriending people his father hates, acting up at Hogwarts so Dumbledore would call his father in, making as many people hate him as possible, and of course taking the dark mark the moment he saw it, scarring Regulus and Evan’s Arms in its tantalizing glory.
Barty Crouch Jr spent his life trying to get his fathers attention. He always failed, but this? This is his final masterpiece. He’ll like to see his Father try to avoid his eye after this one.
