Summary
It had been over a year since Tommy found himself on Hermitcraft with Etho during the man's self-imposed exile. It had been over a year since he'd escaped his own exile on the Dream SMP. He's found peace he hadn't felt in a long time and the healing he so desperately needed. But after his first visit back home, what he finds is nothing like he expected it to be. Distraught, he begs Xisuma to let him bring someone back with him on his next visit. Someone Xisuma is very certain would not be safe for Tommy to be around.

Summary
Etho is not an optimistic man. He’s jaded, these days, and he's never been great at the social stuff.
But- Tommy's in what is probably the safest room Etho has ever known, and he looks like he's expecting someone to shoot him at any moment.
There's something so inherently wrong about it that Etho can't stand to let it be.
OR:
Bdubs owns a bar. Tommy's terrified of most of the people in it. Etho's much too old for things like terror, but he tries to help anyway.

Tommy looked at him again, considering him carefully.
“I never… asked your name?”
Xisuma hesitated. Then, he sighed, knowing the effect his words would have.
“Xisuma - it’s nice to… officially meet you.”
There was just a single moment in which Xisuma took in Tommy’s terrified expression, then with a strong beat of his new wings, the teenager was soaring away in a panic.
Xisuma grimaced, and lent back against the bank of the river and let out a groan.
OR:Xisuma hadn't met Tommy yet - sure, he had seen the kid around and had heard so many stories. But he hadn't wanted to scare the kid. Tommy, however, catches him in one of his costumes and just assumes he's another hybrid

“I… realised I never came over for that catch up?” Etho offered after a beat of uncomfortable silence.
“What’s going on with you guys?” Xisuma sighed, deciding that cutting to the chase would be so much easier. “Is this about your argument the other day?” He asked, looking between Etho and Grian.
“How do you know about that?” Grian asked in surprise.
“You almost tore the server apart,” Xisuma deadpanned, then settled his eyes on Etho. “And Voidwalkers are very sensitive to changes to the fabric of the Void.”
“My bad. Sorry.”
OR:
After Etho and Tommy’s heart to heart, Tommy finally feels ready to come clean to a couple of members of the server. Upon seeing his estranged younger brother, though, Grian doesn’t give Tommy a lot of time to adjust before he’s being made to fly. Only this time, he’s got some people ready to catch him

“Dude - is your base haunted or something?” Mumbo finally asked, breaking off their conversation with an awkward laugh and shake of his head.
“Hm?”
“I just… feel like somethings watching me, or something,” he admitted, straightening up. Grian followed suit, the two of them scanning around the base for any signs of life.
“I know what you mean,” Grian agreed quietly. “It’s been like this for… a couple of days now. But I don’t know…”
"There!” Mumbo exclaimed, pointing wildly into a darkly shadowed corner.
“What?”
“I saw some… blond hair, I’m sure of it!”
“Ohhhh…” Grian thought hard for a moment. “Maybe it’s Zed?”
“Why would Zed be spying on you?”OR:
Last time he had seen Bdubs, Scar, Tango and Etho they had been acting weird, to say the least. And it hadn't been normal for him, since. Ever since that day he's had the overly familiar sensation of being... watched

“Hey, man,” Doc added, raising his hand in an awkward greeting. Etho’s eyes crinkled in a smile.
“Hey - this is Tommy, by the way,” he said, moving out of the way to almost present the teenager to them. Tommy shrunk back from them, the reaction Doc was expecting. But then, to his surprise, his eyes moved to Beef - sweet, friendly Beef - and he hid even more, even taking an extra step back.
That solidified it in Doc’s mind.
He would do anything for this child.
(Perhaps Doc should stop keeping track of the things he will never admit)
OR:
Doc is used to the confused looks he gets when he meets new people. And he's learnt to find great amusement in frightening his friends for it. Tommy, though, is the exception to the rule

“What in the world are you talking about?” Scar chuckled, offering the kid a warm smile.
“Y’know - he’s always been here. Ask Bdubs, he’ll tell you! Season 9 started and - BAM! Tommy was here!” Etho insisted.
“Weird - I would’ve thought Xisuma would’ve mentioned it,” Scar admitted, scratching the back of his head, unsure of what to make of the claim.
“Well - um - you see!”
“It’s a game?” The teenager suggested awkwardly, his voice low and frightened. “Like…”
“Hide and seek!” Etho finished, nodding his head vigorously.

Jellie disappeared, but it's okay because it turns out she's playing therapy cat to the feral child in Bdubs' basement

Summary
“Wait,” Tommy spoke up suddenly. His eyes were wild with fear and something else - sorrow, maybe. Or perhaps grief. “Did you say Grian?”
“You know Grian?” Scar asked, sounding delighted having clearly not picked up on Tommy’s sudden terror.
The teen swallowed hard and shook his head, his eyes going glassy and his breaths beginning to speed up.
“It can’t be the same one, right?” He asked, looking right at Bdubs for reassurance.
ORBdubs is on babysitting duty. And between various attempts to pass Tommy off as being a pile of moss, he learns a little about Tommy's history. Namely, that he has one with another Hermit on the server

Summary
“I thought you’d sent him for me,” Tommy’s voice is back to the same, quiet, scared tone that it held the first time they met and Etho’s tattered heart weeps.
“I made a promise to you - and it’s one that I’m going to keep. I won’t tell X about you - not until you’re ready, okay?” Etho said, trying to force his tone into one of calmness, hoping that it would transfer to the blond boy.
There’s a rustling of blankets for a moment then then Tommy is peaking his fluffy blond head over the top of them to look at Etho. His eyes are glassy and red rimmed, his cheeks pink from crying and when Etho’s eyes drift down to his hands, he can see bite marks on the boys fingers, as though he had been physically restraining himself from making any sound.
OR
After another close call with Xiuma, Etho is forced to admit why he's so insistent on helping Tommy. And Tommy begins to understand what Family is in Hermitcraft

The only thing that really stands out is the fact that Etho's on a single player world. This kid shouldn't have even been able to get here.

Must have been some weird sense of nostalgia, he reasoned on the first day he ventured out to the store on his way home. He never really made sense of why it became a habit or why he even started to begin with. Tommy's always been more of a creative type- scribbling in school books, rotting away in GCSE Art, planning elaborate stories in class, yet he’d never considered chalk a medium he would explore. But four months down the track, Tommy is wasting a significant amount of money each week and ruining all his favourite sweaters with chalk dust.
