Summary
When they were little, and too small for words- the ice giants had communicated with each other through sound.
Clicks and purrs they hadn't even realized they were making until each had been lifted into the warm and loving gaze of the Sun- who'd spoken in words they didn't even know they were capable of speaking until they heard his voice, caring and soft as he whispered their names like a prayer, admiring ones pretty wings and stroking the other's fins and tail.
It didn't take long to notice that back then, when there were no moons, no rocky planets, no dwarf planets and only four giants, they were the only ones capable of producing such sounds.
One stopped making them because he felt embarrassed by his differences.
The other stopped because he forgot he could.
Or
After the moons returned hurt from their battle against Planet X, Uranus started an old habit he couldn't even remember doing in hopes of healing his moons... and his dear cousin, after worrying about him too.
OR
Apparently, fish and birds can purr.

Summary
As soon as he feels the hand put the slightest bit of pressure on his right eye, still covered with something, Triton jerks up-
And immediately regrets it when all the blood rushes up and leaves him so dizzy he doesn’t even fight when two hands pull him back down again.
Someone above him huffs a laugh.
Oh. He knows that particular laugh.
That’s Neptune. Which means that the warm body his head is resting on is Neptune’s lap.
Which.
This is a little too close for Triton’s taste.
Listen. He’s known the blue planet for eons. In all that time, the closest he’s ever been to him was when he first crash landed in his orbit. When he’d been so injured that Neptune’s weird ancient magic was the only thing that could hope to heal his cracks upon that rough entrance.
And that was ages ago. Case in point, the very first thing the moon does with this newfound knowledge is roll away.
Stop, drop, and roll, he thinks a little feverishly.
The injuries are probably getting to him.
Or: post asteroid dodgeball, Triton is healing and Neptune is breaking

Summary
Jupiter was tempted to turn around. To run, to catch up to the ice giant, to beg him for forgiveness and to please come back. X didn't like him- hated him, which was his right. But even if Jupiter kept the asteroid belt in check- why did that have to mean Planet X couldn't be part of their Solar System? Why did that mean he had to be alone, so awfully isolated, away from his home? Jupiter knew X wanted to come back.
So why did he leave so easily on his own? What happened when Jupiter was banished? What did he-
"Are you gonna keep staring, or will you join us soon?"
Jupiter yelped at the sudden voice, actually flinching back into the darkness once more. His anticipation spiked, his heart racing as he glanced up toward the Kuiper Belt- and locked eyes with-
For a moment, Jupiter thought he was looking at Planet X.
His heart stopped, and his breath stuttered. But then he blinked and looked again.
Neptune smiled at him.
Or
Jupiter returns to the Solar System.
....A lot seems to have happened during his absence.

Summary
Triton cringed thinking back to the moments after the battle- oh he had acted like a child. And he must have scared the rest of the moons too.
When had he ever acted like that with Neptune?
...
Well okay that was his own fault too but-
A hand touching his forehead made him snap out of it.
When Triton looked up, he met Neptune's tired but worried gaze- wasn't that a sight? Neptune? Showing worry? In front of his moons? He never showed any emotion other than happy or silly. But he looked so serious these days. So tired all the time. Always looking out for something.
They were all on edge. But it was still shocking how much one event could change a person.
Or
After the battle against Planet X, Triton can't help but think back about his planet.
Specifically... the fact that he's always been comfortable around him, despite trying to think otherwise.

Summary
He didn’t let himself dwell on the way his core constricted when he thought of X, didn’t let himself question why his thoughts kept returning to him even now, didn’t let himself think about his moons.
Nor did he let himself hope for X’s return. It was futile, after all.
Uranus just laid down, closed his eyes, and urged himself into oblivion.
Couldn’t the universe grant him a boon for once?
Or; Uranus is granted the chance of a lifetime.

Summary
Babies. His babies. He never should have let them do this. He’s going to lose them all. He couldn’t protect his two long lost babies from the collision. He lost his mind and all his moons in the Kuiper Belt. And now he’s going to lose them all again. Triton. Nereid. Proteus. Larissa. Despina. Galatea. Naiad. Thalassa. Halimede. Sao. Laomedeia. Neso. Psamathe. Hippocamp. S/2002 N-5. S/2021 N-1.
He’s going to lose them all.
And maybe- maybe this wouldn’t have happened if Neptune didn’t disappear all the time. Maybe this wouldn’t have happened if Neptune listened to his friend’s concerns. Maybe this wouldn’t have happened if Neptune wasn’t as much of a dimwit.
(...)
It wasn't revenge to Caelus. It wasn't! ...right?Neptune never got it. Never understood. Neptune may have been fine with his orbit. With the loneliness and losing his mind, but Caelus wasn’t. How could he be?
Well, whatever. Neptune got what he wanted. Everyone did. Everyone’s story gets a happy ending. Except for Caelus', as usual. Because stars forbid he's allowed to be happy.
Neptune and Uranus during and after the BOPX arc: them grappling with the possibility of losing their moons… and one another.

Summary
Mars had two of the smallest known moons in the entire Solar System.
Mars knew his moons could handle themselves, they weren't stupid and they always had each other if things got too bad, but- he couldn't help his worry. Not only were they small, but the two were also reckless. They often seemed to forget to be careful, forget their size and all Mars had to do was look away for a second before something could go wrong-
He knew his moons weren't weak. He knew they weren't helpless or pitiful, he knew they could handle themselves-
But when your opponent is who knows how many times your size- well. They could only do so much.
Or
Mars is painfully aware of how small his moons are.
That knowledge brings him no favor during and after the game of asteroid dodgeball against Planet X- especially when he can't find his moons.

Summary
She turned and strode away to the rest of the moons, and for a moment Titan just stood still.
Ganymede opened one eye. “Hey. You gonna sit or not?” he rasped.
Titan startled. “Oh. Yeah. Yeah,” he muttered, sitting down faster than he should’ve; a dull pain throbbed through his entire body, and he grimaced, gritting his teeth together. When it finally died down enough to ignore, he was met with Ganymede staring at him. “You… alright?”
Or; Ganymede and Titan have a short talk.

Summary
“Saturn?” Jupiter tilted his head to the side just slightly, trying to catch his eyes. “You want to say something, don’t you?”
For a moment there was nothing but silence.
And then— “Why…?” Saturn’s brow knit, his lips pressed together with clear frustration—and then the words burst out of him like they physically hurt to say. “Why didn’t you let me help you? It’s my fault too. I played just as much of a hand in encouraging you to go through the Asteroid Belt, I—” He dipped his head, cutting himself off with a high, frustrated sound.
Jupiter just let him talk, sure that this was something Saturn needed to say.
Or; Jupiter and Saturn have a talk after his return.

Summary
His eyes were locked onto his moons.
Hurt.
Titan especially. Even from the distance, Saturn could see the spiderweb-like cracks that ran all over his surface- was he unconscious? Did X actually knock him out?
Or did he-
Cosmos, please no.
"Please." A breathless whimper slipped past Saturn's lips, eyes filling up with tears as he covered his mouth. His vision blurred, turning everything into shapeless blobs.
He- he couldn't count his moons.
They kept moving, Saturn's vision wasn't great, there were too many out there. He couldn't tell if anyone was missing. If anyone was-
Please.
His breath hitched as the first tears spilled, making him press his hand more against his lips. Saturn was completely frozen and still, ringing taking over his hearing as that single thought looped in his mind.
Let them be okay.
Please, let them all be okay.
Or
After the battle against Planet X Saturn takes care of his moons... and Jupiter's.

For the briefest of seconds, Erebus’s expression cracked, utter defeat flashing across his features before it wiped away, covered by a strained determination. Jupiter couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking, the need to know so strong it was all he could consider for a moment before he pushed it away, squeezing Erebus’s shoulder once more before he let his hand drop away.
“Fine, Jupiter,” Erebus gritted out. “I won’t leave.”
Or; Jupiter isn't going to let Erebus leave that easily.
