Aaron stared at him. There was no pity in his brown eyes. “You could have avoided that by telling the truth.”
“I could have avoided it by killing Ida a few years ago.” Percy pointed out. He didn’t have to reply to Aaron’s comment; it wasn’t a question. Percy wanted to though.
Aaron turned his head partially to the side. “Ida but not Lily?”
Percy’s teeth dug into his cheek. To answer in anything other than English was to acknowledge something Percy didn’t want Aaron to know. The thing was he didn’t have the luxury to take time and think over the best response. “Last I checked, Lily can’t curse me to tell the truth. Killing her wouldn’t avoided this.”
It was an honest answer. To avoid this situation, Percy would have needed-
“Lily was the one who recruited Ida so I don’t think that-“
Percy interrupted him before Aaron could ask something. “Do you ever wonder if I wish I had killed you?”

“I took Ned to Montauk.” He didn’t explain why. He wasn’t sure he even knew himself.
“Ned,” Grover said, repeating back the name. “Why did you take him to the cabin?”
There wasn’t a lot of people Percy was willing to take to Montauk. The fact he took the kid there instead of immediately at camp said something.
“…It felt right,” Percy said and that was all he was going to say.
“You know him, don’t you?”
“No, I don’t know the kid I took to camp, G-man,” Percy said sarcastically. “He’s a complete stranger.”
“Percy.” Grover’s voice was chiding.
Percy breathed in through his nose before admitting, “Yes, I know him.”
“You know Rachel and never taken her there. You know Hazel and Frank but you’ve never taken them there either.”
He wished he didn’t have friends who were so observant.
Percy opened his mouth. He shut it a few seconds later. “What do you want me to say?”
“He’s younger than Annabeth was when she arrived at camp,” Grover observed out loud.

Seconds dragged by. He kept combing his fingers through her hair. Penelope wanted to melt into the touch. She couldn’t remember the last time someone had touched her outside of fighting a monster. That was her own fault though. She could visit Mom, Paul, and Estelle at any time. It’s just if she did, she was afraid monsters would attack them. Estelle was too young-
“That doesn’t make our relationship less though.”
“I think a lot of people would disagree with you about that, G-man.” Penelope muttered into the mattress. She knew though Grover would still hear her.
“Most mortals think global warming isn’t a thing.”
Penelope snorted. Grover didn’t outright say people were stupid but she knew his views on global warming.
