His fingers twitch in defiance. Just a few inches away, he gets her. Gets every version of her he’s ever known, and every way he’s ever seen her. Every captivating smile, every teasing glance, every rebellious middle finger she’s thrown his way.
He shouldn’t, he really shouldn’t.
But god help, he reaches for it anyway– almost against his will.
He opens his sketchbook– the one he’s kept of her for many years– going through the countless new drawings he’s added since she’s arrived. He doesn’t have to wait until he runs into her in the lanes for him to get a glimpse of her. And so, with every thing she does that he can’t get out of his head, he draws it, capturing the moment in the only way he knows how to.
Even ink isn’t permanent enough in comparison to the big ‘Jinx’ engraved in him.

He leaned back, turning his lamp back on and letting her go for just a second to open the curtain. It was easier to see her in the light, but all that was exposed were her scratched-red arms and her hickey-bruised neck with scattered bite marks all over it. Her lip started trembling as she began to relive each bruise and mark.
”Come here, baby it’s okay.” He gently shifted her to lean forward with her forehead on his shoulder, moving her hair to get a better look. It was then that he saw the ring of red and purple bruising along the back of her neck, looking more hand shaped.
“What? How…” he whispered so he wouldn’t startle her with his voice being right next to her ear, trying to stop himself from visualizing how that happened.
