“Oh.” Mike snapped his fingers, huffing out a laugh. “Oh, this is like that- that black and white movie my mom likes to put on at Christmas. The Jimmy Stewart one.” He stood a little taller, a wild look in his eyes. “Alright! I’ve learned my lesson! I can go home now, and appreciate my life, yada yada.”
Nothing happened. Mike snapped his fingers again, more urgently, before raising his voice in a yell.
“Lesson learned! I wanna go home!”
The world stayed as it was, broken and decayed, and Mike screamed into the cold, stale air.

Summary
The friendship between Dustin Henderson and Steve Harrington was common knowledge in Hawkins by the time Dustin was a freshman. Steve was always driving Dustin to school and picking him up, ruffling his hair and giving girl advice. So naturally, everyone took notice. That scared most people into not messing with King Steve’s little prince. But not Troy Walsh and James Dante, who saw their opportunity to strike.

Summary
He was the last one to enter their group. Having not met any of them until the fourth grade, he knew that they shared a deeper bond than one he could ever hope to have with them all.
That didn't make it hurt any less when they excluded him from things.
Which was why when he left Hawkins the summer after everything went down, he was glad. Glad to get away and experience something for himself. Camp Knowhere was something that he experienced on his own. It was a place where almost everyone was meeting for the first time.
Which was why going home was a bit upsetting.
Or Dustin has issues that he refuses to impose on the others but they're determined to be there for him.
