Summary
After the end of the Second Wizarding War, the infamous Boy Who Lived Twice has all but disappeared from the public eye. In a shocking act of spontaneity in the months following his victory over He Who Shall Not Be Named, Harry Potter abandoned his friends and his pursuits of becoming an auror to study dragons at the infamous Romanian Dragon Sanctuary. Under the careful guidance of his best friend’s brother, Charlie Weasley, Harry has discovered a passion for caring for the rather vicious and powerful beasts. The tumultuous life of the Savior has finally calmed down, and one could argue that he has found something reminiscent of peace after a lifetime of anguish.
But of course, Harry Potter’s life is anything but peaceful. When the dragon keepers save an injured dragon from poachers, Harry’s newfound peace is turned upside down. As any respectable dragon keeper knows, Hebridean Black dragons are notorious for their dark scales and purple eyes. Imagine their surprise when the injured dragon is discovered to be a pure-white Hebridean Black with gray eyes. Eyes that only seem to watch Harry.

This will be a long fic, giving the most overlooked Weasley a full backstory, a queer love life and a fresh future.
New chapters on Fridays/Saturdays.Starting at the Battle of Hogwarts, we follow Charlie as he navigates grief with his family and processes the traumas of war. Charlie's work for the Order of the Phoenix has taken a toll on him, and he's lost his passion for working with dragons. He moves back home after the battle to be with his family, but his mind is elsewhere. Max Erding has been missing since the start of the war, and Charlie is desperate to find out what's happened to him.
We follow Charlie and the Weasleys from May 1998 - December 2000, with lots of flashbacks into Charlie's past along the way, finally ending with an update in the summer of 2005.
Things start slow and sad in the aftermath of the battle, but it's not all bleak, I promise. There is silliness and suffering in equal measure.
This fic is canon compliant with the main 7 HP books only (not movies, games or online content).
And a big ol' disclaimer that I detest JKR's transphobic views. -

He goes to see his mind healer once a week. Refuses any and all offers to join the ministry as an auror and tries to not think himself selfish for it. Bakes every now and then. When he can't sleep, he duels with conjured targets in Arthur's garage. Takes Molly out on shopping dates. Tries to figure out what he wants. Tells himself he will redo the Weasley's back garden before Ron's and Hermione's wedding in the summer - the muggle way. He digs soil. Moves stones.
The physical activity keeps him occupied and bone-tired at the end of the day.
He still thinks too much.
He thinks he might be ready for more - not that he necessarily knows what more means.
Not until the tall dragon tamer comes back home.
