Wie er Ehrenberg so auf der Bank sitzen sah, sah er ironischerweise sich selbst von damals, den gebrochenen Jungen in der Bucht von Neapel, die Wunde immer noch halboffen, blutend, empfindlich. Er wollte ihn umarmen, so wie er den Jungen von damals umarmen wollte, so wie Ehrenberg ihn damals umarmt hatte. Aber er traute sich nicht, konnte sich nicht bewegen.
Es wurde ihm erst jetzt klar, dass Ehrenberg die Welt immer noch genauso sah, wie er selbst sie damals gesehen hatte. Dass der hässliche Schleier des Verlustes vielleicht niemals aufgehört hatte, seine Augen zu trüben.
