“Because, Stiles.” He hesitated, testing the words on his tongue before finally speaking. “You’re a kid. You don’t know what you want.”
That particular ugly expression – of something hurt, displeased– flashes across the boy's features again. “And you chose this child, so–”
“Give me a break,” Derek snapped, standing abruptly. “You think I chose this? You think I had a say in what my wolf did? You think I would ever choose a child? Choose you?”

Wolves mate – and the fairytales make it sound so easy. But Derek’s wolf chose Stiles long ago, and he’s spent every day since pretending it didn’t. He never acted on it. Refused to. That had been the line. He’s not... a monster.But now he’s back, thrust into being an alpha with blood on his hands and a pack on his shoulders, he can’t keep the hunger at bay. It slips through his claws, ends up on bruised skin, and the way he watches Stiles like he’s already his.
Maybe he has always been the monster the hunters whispered about.

Summary
When his dad speaks, it's in a carefully neutral voice. "You saw two wolves tonight."
"One wolf," Stiles corrects. "The other was messed up. It had a wolf face, yes, but it was..." He trails off, not sure how to describe the wrongness of it. The way its muscles moved beneath its skin, rippling and bulging unnaturally. "It wasn't right."
The sheriff nods. "And you magically threw this deformed wolf across the store?"
"I didn't say it was magic."
"A beam of light shoots out of your hands," the sheriff says dryly, "and tosses a wolf several feet away. You don't consider that magic?"
Stiles fiddles with his IV. It's pumping fluids into him, but not morphine, unfortunately. He could use some unconscious euphoria right now.
"I don't know what it was," Stiles says finally. "It's just what happened."
His dad sighs. "Do you know that all wolves in this state are tracked? They have electronic collars on. Every wolf in California is a dot on a map somewhere."
Stiles bites the inside of his mouth.
"There are no wolves around Beacon Hills," the sheriff says definitively.

You're just like her, Derek thinks but does not say. He snarls again, animalistic and vicious, unable to speak at all.
"He touches me, I don't touch him," Chris continues, and fuck that excuse sounds familiar and vile.
Derek clings to his humanity, fighting back the shift. He says, "Stiles should be with someone -"
"Like you?" Chris says, smug as a snake. "Tell me, does Stiles like this jealous streak of yours?"

Stiles stares at the ceiling, completely flabbergasted. Derek Hale wants him. For real. This isn’t another Lydia situation, where he needs to pine and slowly try to work his way in from the edges of someone’s life.
Derek likes him already. Derek is nice to him. Derek answers his questions and his texts and buys him magical things.
He presses a hand against the spot Derek bit and shivers. That action had felt kind of wolfy, like Derek forgot to pretend to be a human man. Maybe that’s it, then, for Derek. Stiles is someone he doesn’t have to pretend to be human with. Maybe after summer ends, after Boyd and Erica are safely corralled in Beacon Hills, Derek will go back to fucking women like Tina or whatever that chick’s name was.
Stiles isn’t complaining. He’ll take what he can get.
