He checks around town and can't find Kaveh anywhere. It's not like Alhaitham should care though. Kaveh is his own person. Just because he's gone does mean he's in danger. He probably just didn't tell Alhaitham where he was going because he doesn't have to. But, Alhaitham still can't help worrying...

Kaveh and Alhaitham aren’t friends now, not anymore, but old habits are hard to quit. Somehow, on quiet evenings like this, they keep slipping under each other’s skin.
“Kaveh.”
Kaveh holds very still. His mouth is dry, but he quells the urge to lick his lips for fear of catching the taste of Alhaitham’s skin.
Instead, he looks at Alhaitham, seeing the tension of his clenched jaw, the tint pinkening his cheeks. His eyes rise so their gazes meet, and Kaveh sees a question there. Understands the context of this touch, the finger at his mouth, the firm thigh nudging tight against his own.
“It’s only sex,” Alhaitham had said, the first time they had relapsed in the sun-yellow kitchen.
