Summary
"Does it hurt you to think of him hurting your country?" he asked, and he told himself that he was pleased, that he wanted Damen hurt. That is eased his own pain if Damen, too, were forced to suffer.
"You know it does," Damianos answered. He paced like a caged animal, like one of Halvik's chained leopards, full of restrained violence, yet he came no closer. "Are we playing now with the fate of nations?" he demanded. "It won't bring your brother back."
With the Regent in Ios and his Akielon's identity revealed, the war for the throne of Vere is gaining heat. Laurent's plans for his alliance and his trust in his Akielon have both been shaken by his Uncle's machinations, but he is determined that he will continue the fight, no matter how much it hurts. This is an attempt to examine King's Rising from Laurent's POV.
