Summary
The overthrow of Queen Chrysalis and the ascension of King Thorax were meant to herald a major turning point in world history. A vital stepping stone towards a friendlier, more interconnected world.
Except the Queen was not content to go quietly into her exile. She would reclaim her kingdom even if she had to, in her own words, “set it on fire and rule over the ashes.”
Only six months on from that fateful day, in the spring of 1007 AD, the Badlands region found itself plunged into the mayhem of civil war. Neighbour turned on neighbour. Broodmate against broodmate.
Honouring her newly forged alliance with King Thorax and determined to crush the scourge of Chrysalis once and for all, Equestria rolled her forces into the Badlands for the very first time. It was at this moment many historians would agree that truly started the 'Badlands War'. The most deadly and destructive conflict of the modern era, its profound effects would be felt by changeling and ponykind alike for generations to come.
The Desolation serves as an anthology of firsthand accounts of those whose lives were upended by the war, be they a homesick conscript or a grub forced to grow up far too soon.

So much so that Spike asked Rachel to move in with him in Ponyville.
In Canterlot however, it isn't peaches and cream. Chancellor Neighsay, after being kicked out of court, bringing up how humans were slowly invading their world, bringing drugs, sicknesses and taking advantaged of ponykind. His views of human kind was sickening. Wanting all humans to leave their world.
But when turned away, he meets a sympathetic ally who can help him with his cause, even if it means committing treason.
With all that going in fear of a war, can Spike and Rachel relationship last?

This is a much more tragic ending on, "The Hearth's Warming Club."
A prank gone wrong leaves the Hearth's Warming Eve preparations in ruins. The students are forced to clean up the mess while Twilight Sparkle, with the help of Rainbow Dash and Spike, tries to figure out which of her students is behind it, but when bad feelings boil over into an argument, things take a turn for the worst when the Gallus reveals himself to be the culprit and does something that will leave everyone picking up the pieces of more than just the decorations.

However, it won't be just for ponies, but just about every creature in the other kingdoms of the land such as Changelings, Hippogriffs, yaks, griffins, dragons, and even timberwolves.
