Tim woke, a gasp tearing from his throat as cold hit his skin like a wave. The others were gone, only him and danny on the couch, tv on the screen saver. “Danny?”
Danny thrashed on the couch, eyes glowing feral green, half in and half out of phase with reality. Chains of spectral light coiled around his arms, his ghost energy bleeding uncontrolled.
“Danny! Hey—hey, wake up!” Tim’s voice cracked.
The shout brought the others running.
Jason was there in seconds, vaulting the back of the couch. “He’s freezing the whole damn room!”
Dick was next, hands already out, palms open like he was approaching a spooked animal. “Danny! You’re safe, you hear me? You’re not there anymore!”
But Danny didn’t hear them. Not yet. His breathing was erratic, a sound halfway between a gasp and a sob.
Duke stumbled in, bare feet on cold tile. His meta-vision flared instinctively—and for a split second, he saw all of it. The eyes. The teeth. The ghost-fire swirling like a storm barely contained.
“Holy—” He cut himself off, stepping back but not running. “We need to ground him, now!”
