Summary
The scream slices through him, so loud and so sudden, that Rhys jolts spilling the glass of pale wine all over the expensive table cloth. Tarquin, with whom he’s been sharing a friendly lunch, straightens from his casual sprawl and raises an eyebrow.
“Are you okay?”
But Rhys barely hears him, his ears, his mind too full of the sound of distant screaming, of Feyre screaming. He hurtles down the bridge connecting their minds, screaming her name but when he reaches her inner walls they’re a fortress, and one that doesn’t yield even as he slams invisible fists against them.
Feyre. Feyre. Feyre!
But there’s no response, only the sense of churning turmoil, pain and anguish and fear, on the other side. He only gets a glimpse of it before those walls shove him out but he sees it, that intense feeling of wrongness.
When Rhys hears Feyre's distant screams he races home to find out what's wrong with his mate. For Febuwhump Day 25 prompt: muffled screams.
