Summary
Unknown to Middle-earth, except for the Elves and Wizards, Hobbits and Orcs were sister races. Both were created by Melkor; the Orcs were perfect soldiers, and the Hobbits were spies, creatures who could walk in the light and required blood to stay healthy. But after the fall of Sauron, the Hobbits resolved to make peace with the other races and leave their past behind. They founded the Shire, promising protection from the Elves in exchange for never drinking blood or attacking other peoples. But after several generations, almost all of Middle-earth forgot that the Hobbits were Melkor's creation, and Men desired the Shire, so they attacked. The Elves broke their promises and did not come to their aid, the Dwarves ignored the Hobbits' existence, considering them insignificant, and the Wizards were unaware of their existence. The Hobbits held fast to their promises and did not attack Men, knowing they could not fight the Elves, who would destroy them if they learned they had broken their pact. And they had to watch Men slaughter their people like animals, until Azog appeared with an army of Orcs. And the Alliance of Hobbits and Orcs began, completely changing the Quest for Erebor and the return of Sauron.

When Bilbo's engagement to Azog goes up in flames – and exposes Azog's lies and manipulations of his friends and family and neighbors to boot – Bilbo flees to Dale and the house he had rented that was to be his honeymoon trip, to hide from reporters and the stares of the hobbits in the Shire. He had expected two weeks of walks and tours of the ruins of Erebor. He had expected two weeks of anonymity. He had expected two weeks of some place to hide and lick his wounds in private so that when he came back to face his former fiance in court it would not hurt so much.
Bilbo did not expect ghosts. Or a haunted house. Or Lobelia, for that matter. What had started as a place to hide for two weeks became something else far quicker than either Bilbo or Lobelia expected.

Gandalf, who was piping his smoke, sneered: As if they're going to get his granddaughter!
Bilba, who was happily cooking in her kitchen, shivers: Hmm?...why is it suddenly cold?

“What use have I for honor, when blood tastes better than wine, and screams are the greatest music I’ve ever heard?”
He lifted his foot and Bilbo tried to scramble away, but he was too slow to get far before Azog grabbed him by his neck, holding him up once more even as Bilbo struggled to breathe.
“Don’t touch him!” Thorin roared uselessly from the ground, even as he struggled to roll over, to sit up, to do something to stop this! “Leave him alone you bastard!”

Thorin and Bilbo don't escape with the eagles, and end up in Azog's clutches, where Thorin tries desperately to keep Bilbo safe. -

There were a lot of things Gandalf didn't know about Bilbo Baggins. He didn't know why the other hobbits scorned him calling him mad, avoiding him in fear of catching something.
Bilbo did not argue when dwarfs barged into his home, he was used to people coming into his bedroom unannounced.
He didn't take much notice to the insults Thorin spat at him, he had been called much worse for far longer.
He did not complain at the dirty handkerchief, at least he had something.
He didn't complained at the lack of meals, he was used to being underfeed.

Fic prompt: "Thorin's company escapes the goblin tunnels, they are chased by the wargs and they take refuge in the trees. But when Azog shows up it turns out he has no intention of killing them. He has been fantasizing about Thorin ever since the dwarf cut off his arm, and now he has every intention of proposing to the love-of-his-life in a proper orc-fashion...
So, instead of attacking Azog starts courting Thorin (much to everyone's horror), reciting orc poetry, singing morbid love songs accompanied by the howling wargs and professing his undying love for his beloved foe, combining threats and promises. Thorin is thoroughly disgusted, the older dwarves are outraged and the young ones are barely suppressing laughter, while Gandalf is disturbingly pragmatic about the whole situation. Bilbo is just scared."
