Summary
Merlin is a stressed out nursing student. Gwen and Morgana drag him out of his flat to have a fun night out, but when Merlin gets home, drunk and frustrated by how easily Morgana and Gwen express their love for each other he decides to call Arthur. He’s had a crush on Arthur for a long time, but tonight the alcohol and loneliness get to him so he makes the decision to finally tell him how he feels hoping to get his voicemail and thinking he does, he lays everything out (sort of).

So he goes to visit the brothel to see a prostitute who apparently can take on the face of the person you desire with magic.

Whether it was because of his bright smile, or his expressive eyes – which tended to beam and dart and flutter about like lively blue butterflies, alighting but briefly on every surface – or the contrast his glowing skin made to his raven hair… Arthur did not know, nor care. Sometimes it was one, sometimes it was all of them. But when he got to that point of reasoning, he forced himself to look away, and tried to think of something else.

When Arthur discovers Merlin’s magic, Merlin flees the city to live among the magical refugees hiding at the outskirts of Camelot. But when the magic folk make Merlin their leader, Uther declares war. Desperate to put an end to the violence once and for all, Merlin decides to force Arthur’s hand by surrendering himself in exchange for peace, by tying Arthur’s honour as a knight to the well-being of all magic users. Another rendition of what should have happened after the gayest meeting of all time. This scene takes place after they (flirt) insult one another the second time. Instead of fighting in the middle of the square, Arthur drags Merlin into a convenient alleyway and they proceed to release some of that built-up tension. After making out Merlin pushes Arthur onto his knees, a move which the Prince finds very offensive (because obviously it should be the other way around).
And yet there's just something about Merlin he can't quite put his finger on... Then again, if a finger isn't working, why not try his mouth instead?

Merlin smiled as he passed Arthur on his way out through the door, but when he stepped into the hallway, with his back safely turned, he let it drop. The smile had been for Gaius’s benefit only.
