Idril and Aredhel decide to let Gondothlim vote for their beloved one.
Glorfindel led the Golden Flower and was the best beloved of the Gondothlim, save it be Ecthelion, but who shall choose.
Aredhel thought Ecthelion, who was about to receive the most votes, would not like the award they had prepared, but it didn’t matter; Glorfindel would persuade him in his own way. He knew that his partner could not refuse the way he asked. As always, Ecthelion’s resistance was ineffective.

In the first year of the Fourth Age, after three thousand one hundred and thirty-eight unhappy, furious, grieving years of being reborn into an Aman that has been trying very hard to pretend that everything is absolutely fine ever since Morgoth was banished from the world, Fingon the Valiant walked through the Door of Night into the Void to seek the fëa of Maedhros, Kinslayer, Self-Slain, who hated himself so much upon the moment of his death that he chose Everlasting Darkness voluntarily.
He left behind an extended family who is shocked and appalled to learn of this decision - and that Námo the Doomsman was the one holding the Door open for him.
Or: The last time one of the House of Finwë fell at the hands of a Vala in Aman, the Silmarillion happened.

Aredhel is pierced by the javelin, and she does not die. In fact, when she wakes up to Idril fretting over her, she doesn't remember having been hit, or even having left Gondolin all those years ago.
But Fingolfin and Fingon are dead, and Turgon has gone missing in this latest and worst battle, and that means she is High King whether she likes it or not. On the bright side, she's got a new nephew, Gil-Galad, and a very helpful assistant in the form of the youngest Lord of Gondolin, who seems oddly familiar...

When Lómion is eleven years old, Aredhel escapes with him to Gondolin. But some curse or poison makes her ill, and soon she falls into a deep sleep and won't wake up.
Turgon has to figure out how to raise Lómion himself until she wakes, but he's a very strange child. Luckily he has the help of Idril and all his people to look after his new nephew!
