Summary
The Empire is winning the war. In the wake of his master's death, Volstrucker Bren ascended to Archmage of Civil Influence, but he's been secretly undermining the Empire by feeding intelligence to the Mighty Nein, a group of adventurers fighting for peace. When his rival and friend the Shadowhand is captured, Bren acts on the only idea that will spare a Kryn politician from execution: claiming him as a war prize.
Bren and Essek are forced to perform a fake politican/concubine relationship, including all the tension and jingoism it entails, while taking advantage of their circumstances to spy on and steal from the court around them. Bren may wield the leash, but Essek has cards up his sleeve, and even so, Bren fears hurting Essek almost as much as Essek fears losing Bren. Their mutual trepidation must graduate to mutual trust — maybe even love — if they have any hope of surviving the lie they started.

Summary
But to her, in these moments, he is only ever Caleb, and she is only ever Genevieve. To be anything else would be dangerous. To be anything else would be admitting the way butterflies take flight in her stomach when she catches sight of the familiar thick cloak he wears, the flash of the silver pin on the lapel of his jacket underneath, the curve of a half-smile when their eyes meet across the floor. To be anything but Genevieve and Caleb would be admitting that Jester is falling hopelessly in love with her favourite client.

Summary
An Archmage of the Cerberus Assembly, a Kryn Dynasty heretic, a mafia princess, a maker of fine graves who spurned his own grave, a champion of a great leviathan, a champion of an even darker god, an assassin, and a spy all arrive in Eiselcross to a sky turning red in warning, dark eyes dotting the horizon, while a city floats over what remains of Aeor, sending whispers on the winter winds, welcoming them home.
Waiting on that great floating city is their wayward ninth member. By his ambitions and desire, they became the Mighty Nein, and by his ambitions and desire, they are the Mighty Nein again.
One way or another, they are going to keep their sacred pact to each other.

Summary
Archmage, Warmage, Firebringer, Dark Hand of the Cerberus Assembly: Caleb Widogast was not ignorant of his role in all this.
The Empire is nearly ten years deep into a seemingly endless Xhorhasian war, each lull in the violence leading to greater and deadlier escalation. So when the Empire initiated negotiations with the Revelry - a quiet endeavour designed the starve Xhorhas into submission, but an unlikely scheme in Caleb’s eyes - it was perhaps justifiable wartime desperation, he reasoned. Unjustifiable however was Caleb’s assignment to lead these negotiations, distracting from his work rooting out more dire threats to peace, perhaps from within the Empire’s own ranks. And this Captain sent to represent the Revelry, Fjord? He was one particular distraction that Caleb could not afford.
An Archmage, a Cobalt Expositor, a spy, three pirates and their Captain with a demigod patron that has plans for all of them find themselves in Zadash to end a war. And Caleb can’t be sure which side he’s on in more than one game of cat and mouse.

Summary
A low, displeased rumble began behind Fjord’s sternum. “That’s one of them?” he asked, dipping his head low to nuzzle at the soft spot behind Caleb’s ear, his breath ghosting cooly against the back of Caleb’s neck.
“She was,” he confirmed bitterly, forcing himself to look away. He never even saw her face clearly through the dark, though he didn’t think he recognized her. Perhaps she was younger. After his time.
Fjord hummed. “And now she’s dead,” he said flatly, tucking Caleb closer, resting his chin on his shoulder. “Like the rest. And all those before, and anyone else they decide to send after," he promised, his low tone growing colder, ending nearly on a growl. "Until eventually, they learn.”
