In retrospect, he should have known better.
Molly assumes it’s a misunderstanding; it wouldn’t be the first time his infernal heritage has caused him trouble, someone of small mind and smaller sensibilities taking exception to his presence and assuming he’s up to no good. Point being, he isn’t overly surprised when he’s approached by two Crownsguard asking that he please come with them.
They’re polite, apologetic, and he’ll kick himself later at how easily they take him in, how completely he buys it. It takes him longer than it should to realize they’re not headed to the city’s stockade, to realize they’re going the wrong way. When he turns to one of them to ask where they’re going, that’s when everything goes to shit as the man at his back clocks him on the back of the head and the world goes dim and watery. Before he can react, the man hits him again and Molly crumples, everything going dark.

Of course, touching the stars was going to have to wait, because he'd lost that dream the moment his parents had died when he was ten years old—the moment he had watched that starship explosion and felt a bit of his heart die with them. He'd lost that dream when he was transported to prison and then to a place called Pogtopia.
He'd lost that dream when he watched hundreds of children starve on the streets of Pogtopia. When he and two friends become the lone survivors of the Red Planet's Genocide. When they were rescued, and he was captured again.
But maybe—maybe one day, he would regain that dream. Maybe he would hunt down the mass murderer that had executed his friends and gain his revenge—but that day was not now, and now he sat in a prison and stared at the faraway stars.
Perhaps there would be people that he could call family again. People he would see again—people whom he had lost years ago. One day.

Bien sûr, toucher les étoiles allait devoir attendre puisque ce rêve était mort avec ses parents quand il avait dix ans-une partie de son cœur était partie dans l’explosion du vaisseau. Il avait perdu ce rêve quand il s’était retrouvé en prison, puis dans un endroit nommé Pogtopia.
Ce rêve était mort en même temps que les centaines d’enfants qu’il avait vu mourir de faim dans les rues de Pogtopia. Quand deux de ses amis et lui devinrent les seuls survivants du Génocide de la Planète Rouge. Quand eux furent sauvé et qu’il se fit capturer de nouveau.
Mais peut-être son rêve reviendra-t-il un jour. Peut-être pourra-t-il traquer le meurtrier qui a exécuté ses amis et qu’il aura sa revanche-mais aujourd’hui n’est pas ce jour, et il se retrouve assis dans une prison à observer les étoiles au loin.
Peut-être existait-il quelque-part des gens qu’il pouvait de nouveau appeler famille. Des gens qu’il reverrait-des gens qu’il avait perdu des années auparavant. Un jour, peut-être.
Parce qu’il était Avian, né pour être toujours seul parmi des étoiles brisées.
Et les Avians ne chutaient pas, pas à moins de le vouloir.

Por supuesto, tocar las estrellas iba a tener que esperar, porque había perdido ese sueño en el momento en que sus padres murieron cuando él tenía diez años, el momento en que vio la explosión de la nave estelar y sintió morir un poco de su corazón. Había perdido ese sueño cuando lo transportaron a prisión y luego a un lugar llamado Pogtopia.
Pero tal vez, tal vez algún día, recuperaría ese sueño. Tal vez cazaría al asesino en serie que había ejecutado a sus amigos y se vengaría, pero ese día no era ahora, y ahora estaba sentado en una prisión y miraba las estrellas lejanas.
Tal vez habría personas a las que podría volver a llamar familia. Gente a la que volvería a ver, gente a la que había perdido años atrás. Un día.
Porque era un aviar, nacido para estar siempre solo entre estrellas rotas.
