Summary
After the Xindi attack on Earth, Captain Jonathan Archer and his crew are ordered to travel into the Delphic Expanse, find the Xindi, and destroy a larger weapon the Xindi are building that is capable of destroying Earth. In order to complete said mission, Captain Archer is ordered to take a historian onboard the Enterprise. With the perfect historian in mind, Archer convinces his goddaughter, Ensign Adélaïde "Addie" Renaud, to take on the mantle, despite her phobia of deep space. Wanting to make history, Addie takes the job on with little convincing, and minor fanfare. Now headed for the Expanse, where no aid will come to the Enterprise or her crew if need be, Addie must do her job diligently while trying not to fall for the ship's tactical officer, Lieutenant Malcolm Reed.

Summary
Commander Charles Tucker III, affectionately known as Trip, serves the Terran Empire as part of the Royal Imperial Naval Guard. It's what he's been good at. He's failed at almost everything from running an estate to love. Not to mention he has no interest in love. He avoids it at almost every cost.
Serving the Emperor is the only thing he's done that hasn't disappointed anyone. But when the Emperor tasks him with protecting a princess from the Vulcan Kingdom, he's afraid this is something he's going to mess up and let down the one person whose always believed in him.
Though protecting her isn't as easy as it seems. She ends up being a challenge that he meets at every corner. She even helps him find what he's truly frustrated in - himself. Things become complicated when her life and the Emperor's are in danger. Trip is tasked with finding an evil that lurks in the shadows and discovering his own demons, facing things he's never wanted to head on. Now he wonders, will his life return to normal or will it remain changed for good and probably for the better.
