Summary
When Quentin wakes up in a different bed than usual after another evening of using the emotion-stealing bottles, the first thing he sees is Eliot in bed with him. It’s hard to tell, but he’s pretty sure Eliot isn’t wearing any clothes. Then, Quentin’s gaze catches on Margo's arm wrapped around him, only then noting the added weight.
Before he can start to spiral, he notices blonde hair and a smaller body tucked behind Eliot, seemingly just as naked. Then he sees another, tanned arm over Alice's back, and a glimpse of Penny’s stubble pressed into Alice’s shoulder.
Huh. Quentin thinks dimly, and then he falls back asleep.
(Or: Skipping through timelines, Jane desperately searches for a road to victory, and any possible permutations of her chosen few having sex don't interest her-- though these permutations happen anyway.)

What if Eliot did a lot more from inside the Happy Place than take a greatest hits tour of his deepest regrets and speak to reality-Quentin only the one time?
What if Eliot kept putting himself through the wringer to get out to Quentin when he could, especially when Quentin needed him? And by practicing, could stay out for longer stretches of time?
What if the memory palace is actually the greatest study hall Eliot has ever known, and the enforced solitude with all his memories gives him the chance to level up into the master magician he was always meant to be?
Eliot sees Quentin struggling--with the Monster, with exhaustion and burnout, with depression--and he'll be damned if he doesn't do everything in his power to help. Especially since he feels responsible for it all.

Even in the face of fifty plus years at the Mosaic…five years together in this life still felt like an amazing achievement to Eliot. Five years he never thought they’d have. Grateful for every day, even when he was floundering in the fear that he didn’t know how to do this. Until Quentin caught him with a laugh, a kiss, a “Hey” with smiling eyes.
In Quentin he found the home, happiness, and love he’d never had before in this life. He wanted to do something for Quentin that matched the magnitude of what Quentin had given him.
Of course, the best-laid plans are bound to go sideways, when magic’s involved.
On the afternoon of their five-year anniversary, Julia calls Eliot to tell him Quentin will be late for dinner.
“I don’t know why, but three portals malfunctioned at once. The third one got detached somehow and connected to an unknown world. Don’t worry, Q’s fixing them.”
“Don’t worry! Detached portals! Unknown worlds!” He could barely speak, his throat was so tight. “Tell him to wait. I’ll be right there.”
“El, I don’t know what to tell you. He’s already gone.”
It hit him like a sudden brick to the chest.

Quentin survives the explosion after restoring the mirror and throwing the bottle with the monster. He wakes up alone and realizes he has been abandoned by the people who are supposed to be his friends. How will he react?

Once a portal is found, all of our gang and Kady’s hedges hide out from the virus plaguing Earth in New Fillory. The World Seed is still forming itself to the wishes of its new inhabitants, which brings nothing but headaches for High King Margo and the new administration. But when the Eliot who never went to the Mosaic accidentally wishes to life the Old Quentin who just finished the Mosaic quest, it also brings existential crises for both of them-- and for their friends who had complicated relationships with their own Quentin. Thank the gods Mama is there to help her boys sort things out.
(Trigger warning for brief mentions of the very start of the pandemic. I used it as an excuse to get everyone into New Fillory and keep them there. So it’s mentioned as they bug out in January of 2020, and will probably show up later as a reason they can’t go back to Earth, but no one gets sick and it’s virtually forgotten as they’re caught up in New Fillory drama.)
I’m writing an original work now, which is my primary focus, and I’m writing on Lovely in my spare time for fun and escapism. I can’t promise a consistent posting schedule, but subscribe for notifications.
